Leeds Light Night

Lux Two or Leeds Light night was another projection-mapped game, I helped make for Leeds Light Night 2022. The game was based on the previous Lux game but updated and changed to fit and play on the Leeds Civic Hall.

The gameplay was similar to the original but because of the shape of the building and the location of the projectors, we needed to alter a lot more about the game’s progression as the previous lux.

The core mechanic of shooting a ball and sticking to the wall was kept but a whole new lava system had to be made because we couldn’t use an upward moving force to control the time limit of the game/ level.

The idea of players sticking to their own coloured walls also confused a lot of people, so we scrapped the idea and went with a more free for wall gameplay style.

Because of the scale of the event, a lot of the focus of the redesign was maintaining a time limit per game session, while also giving a sense of progression and fun per level. We wanted to get as many people to play the game, and also make it a memorable experience. But to be honest, we could have spent less time thinking about this because playing a game on the side of a building is pretty memorable.
